Founded in 2008, Action for Public first began as an externally funded NGO helping vulnerable populations in cyclone-affected areas of Myanmar as well as people living with HIV.
The group has come a long way since then and has now transformed into a local sewing business employing eight talented women, with the mission to support them and their families through income generation, psychosocial support, as well as vocational and capacity-building training programs.
AFP has collaborated closely with Hla Day since 2012, they initially came as tailors with the hope of selling children’s school uniforms. However, through continuous product design and technical mentorship, AFP now produces many of our beloved items, including the adorable Nilar and Thida dolls (who still wear a traditional green school uniform, a little nod to how the group began!), as well as many clothing and household items, kitchenware, soft toys, and ornaments.
